How can we organize ourselves in order to produce a collective short film? Building on examples of collective filmmaking and using anarchist methods of organizing we will use the four days of the masterclass to learn from a process of working together in order to produce a rough cut for a potential film. <br />
A self-organized process will be put in place, and it will explore ideas of decentralization, role rotation and collective writing. <br />
<br />
Marwa Arsanios’ practice tackles structural questions using different devices, forms and strategies. From architectural spaces, their transformation and adaptability throughout a civil war, to artist-run spaces and temporary conventions between communes and cooperatives, the practice tends to make space within and parallel to existing art structures allowing experimentation with different forms of assemblies. Film becomes another device and space for connecting struggles through images and montage. <br />
In the past nine years Arsanios has been attempting to think about these questions from a new materialist and a historical materialist perspective with different feminist movements that are in a struggle for taking back their land. <strong>MASTER CLASS "Anarchist Practices of Filmmaking?" with MARWA ARSANIOS</strong><br />

How can we organize ourselves in order to produce a collective short film? Building on examples of collective filmmaking and using anarchist methods of organizing we will use the four days of the masterclass to learn from a process of working together in order to produce a rough cut for a potential film. <br />
A self-organized process will be put in place, and it will explore ideas of decentralization, role rotation and collective writing. <br />
<br />
Marwa Arsanios’ practice tackles structural questions using different devices, forms and strategies. From architectural spaces, their transformation and adaptability throughout a civil war, to artist-run spaces and temporary conventions between communes and cooperatives, the practice tends to make space within and parallel to existing art structures allowing experimentation with different forms of assemblies. Film becomes another device and space for connecting struggles through images and montage. <br />
In the past nine years Arsanios has been attempting to think about these questions from a new materialist and a historical materialist perspective with different feminist movements that are in a struggle for taking back their land. She tries to look at questions of property, law, economy and ecology from specific plots of land, while focusing on the histories of the commons in the levant region. She has been part of artist collectives and initiatives, the most recent being the legal communalisation of a land in the North Lebanon through its transformation to a Mashaa.<br />

We’re very pleased to have been invited by the artist and professor Nick Oberthaler to meet and collaborate with a group of his Master Fine Arts students from ENSBA (École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts) in Lyon, France.<br />
This will be a wonderful opportunity to visit Lyon, share a collective experience in our Masterproef year, see a lot of art along the way, and most importantly, meet and work together with the students from ENSBA on a joint exhibition project in the school in Lyon. The idea is that for this everyone brings a small art work (around A4-A3 size, can be in 2D or in 3D) with them to Lyon! As the trip will involve collaboration, time to install and open the exhibition, as well as visits to exhibitions and sites of interest, we are planning a four-day trip, from 9–12 December.<br />
Here is the provisional schedule:Tuesday 9 December<br />

16:00 – Stopover in Dijon (visit to Museum Le Consortium)<br />
20:00 – Arrival in Lyon, check in at hostel, dinner<br />

* <strong>Please sign up by the deadline date that is added to each artist,</strong> we will be in touch with you via email after this to confirm (because we try to find the best order for our guest artists to visit you all between our different buildings: 'Bijloke', 'Kunsttoren' and 'de Zaal' - so that they don't lose too much time getting from building to building).<br />

* <strong>Guest Artist Talks always take place on Thursdays during the weekly Master Salon</strong> and they are open to ALL students of the Master. Please be on time!<br />

* <strong>There will be quite a few guests visiting us this year but for the moment, don't exceed a maximum of 2-3 studio visits per person, to give everyone a chance to sign up <3 - Studio visits are meant for those students that are signed up for the Masterproef</strong> <br />
