Masterclass description: STEFAAN DHEEDENE – THE FLOOR ON THURSDAY 'The floor on Thursday’ is an initiative in which the floor of the Installation studio is reserved for public exhibitions and events initiated by master students participating in this master class. This masterclass is initiated by the Master of Fine Arts, but students from the Master's program in Graphic Design, Photography and Autonomous Design can also register.

Anyone who has the ambition to organize events themselves or experiment with various formats, set up a dynamic or engagement or test a curatorial practice can participate in this masterclass. Where necessary, we provide the necessary production and budgetary support, and the workshops and lending services are nearby and available.

The aim of 'The floor on Thursday' is to create public events or exhibitions on Thursday evenings based on various collaborations, affinities and a curatorial practice. This initiative also has the ambition to invite students from various courses and bring them together around these public events that are entirely initiated by the participating students. The participating students take initiatives and occupy the space with events that they find important and relevant.

The students start from the interests into their own practice and enter into discourse and experiment with various exhibition methods and look for possible points of contact or collaboration between individual students, artists, activists, musicians, etc. (also outside KASK). Given the diversity of media used, there are no restrictions in the format of the event or exhibition. Naturally, there is no pressure to leave one's own medium. It is important to set up and explore a public program based on your own insights and to arrive at a conversation and a concrete project in which you share an artistic experience beyond your own place of production or studio practice. During the 2-day introduction we will discuss in group the options for putting together a program. You also present your own work to each other and forge bonds with fellow students. Your fellow students are your direct sounding board.

We are planning a rough program for the coming academic year. You can then prepare for your own public moment in duo or small groups. As a teacher, I also visit the studio during this period and/or we meet on the floor for further follow-up and the final event on the floor.
